Welcome to the secondary schools' page!
Plymouth’s Place-based approach to school improvement began over three years ago with the city’s 19 secondary schools committing to working collaboratively to improve outcomes at KS4. Plymouth was one of four national pilots which qualified for the DfE Trust and School Improvement Offer. Over the course of the last three years, significant progress has been made in terms of improving Ofsted outcomes as well as increasing progress and attainment data, however, the improvement journey is from over!
Plymouth secondary headteachers work together through a network called Plymouth Learning Trust (PLT). Lee Sargeant is the current chair of the PLT and is the representative for secondary schools at the Strategic Education Group. He is headteacher of Devonport High School for Girls.
Professor Sonia Blandford (University of Marjon) and Associate Professor Suanne Gibson (University of Plymouth) with their combined research team were commissioned to academically evaluate Plymouth’s Place-based approach to school improvement by the Department for Education Southwest Regions Group.
