Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy – Regional Roadshows

on . .

On 28 January the Department published the Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategyand the Early Career Framework

The Strategy sets out for the first time our offer to the profession to make sure a career in teaching continues to be attractive, rewarding and sustainable.

We have focused on tackling those issues we regularly hear about from teachers and school leaders – the workload, the high stakes accountability system, the lack of flexible working opportunities, and the steep learning curve for new teachers.  The Teacher Recruitment and Retention Strategy sets out how we will address these challenges, with ambitious new ideas to help teachers at every stage of their career.

We will be hosting roadshows in all regions to discuss the Strategy and would like to invite you to join us.

We are particularly interested in meeting with senior leaders of schools and academy trusts and representatives from local authorities and dioceses.

At the roadshows, you will have an opportunity to:

  • Find out more about the strategy
  • Collaborate with peers to find strategies that you can apply in your own schools
  • Discuss how to deliver the strategy in your local area
  • Share your feedback on how we can build on the proposals in the strategy

Teaching Vacancies Service

The DfE has now launched a free job listing service for all state schools and searchable jobs database for teachers looking for jobs https://teaching-vacancies.service.gov.uk/. All schools in the South West were sent an email inviting them to sign up and begin advertising jobs in the w/c 4th February. As soon as a school, academy or MAT signs up they can begin advertising roles. If you did not receive an invitation, or would like to advertise vacancies on behalf of your organisation you can send an email to teaching.vacancies@education.gov.uk.

Teachers can begin to use the database to search for jobs from February.
