Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE): Training and Support – Invitation to Bid

From September 2020, Relationships Education will be compulsory for all primary school age pupils, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) will be compulsory for all secondary school age pupils, and Health Education will be compulsory universally for primary and secondary aged pupils.

The Department for Education has committed to the development of a central programme of support for schools to support delivery of these subjects, improving teacher access to resources, improve subject knowledge, and build confidence. This will focus on tools to improve schools’ practice. The Department has been working with lead teachers, non-specialist teachers and schools to develop training materials that are suited to their needs.

Teaching Schools are invited to bid for provision of training and support to other schools in preparing and teaching the new RSHE curriculum. The focus of this project is to provide high quality face-to-face training for state-funded schools and support to all schools on a regional basis to support the implementation of the statutory guidance.

The Teaching School Council (TSC) will be managing this process on behalf of the Department for Education – the process is set out in document 1 below. The TSC will be making recommendations but the final decision on awarding the grants rests with the Department. A minimum of 1 primary and 1 secondary lead school is required across the South West region.
