Supporting CAGs in Science – Summer 2021 and beyond.  A webinar for Plymouth secondary Science Leads.

Intended outcomes:

• Share good practice and ideas in in assigning GCSE centre assessed grades for Summer 2021
• Reflect on how to ensure consistent and robust processes in assessment, including any implications for future working beyond Summer 2021
• Network with other Science Subject Leaders and agree priorities for future sessions 

This session will allow you to gain ideas and/ or reassurance from others in a similar position as we work towards assigning centre assessed grades.  Good practice will be shared of how to support a robust, quality process.  We will also consider any implications for assessment more generally, for current Y10 and beyond. 

Participants will have the opportunity for discussion and to ask questions (either raised during the session or submitted beforehand). 

The session will be facilitated by Joe Lyons, Head of Science at Eggbuckland Community College, and Tracey Baxter, Independent Consultant with roles as AQA Advocate and Edexcel Credible Specialist.  The meeting will be led via Zoom.

The session will primarily focus on GCSE but there will be an opportunity to continue beyond the main meeting, or to set up an other informal discussion, for colleagues involved with A Level or ELC.

Our Plymouth Literacy Leads PLC will hold its next session on May 11th 4.15 - 5.15 pm and will feature input from Rob Diment West Country School Trust and Darren Towers, Stoke Damerel Community College on the use of NGRT testing suite to diagnose and then support literacy interventions.

There will also be an opportunity for Literacy Leads to have some informal support from Rob on the intersessional tasks set as part of the EEF Leadership Programme

An Education Endowment Foundation/Plymouth City Council sponsored Leadership Programme for all Plymouth Secondary Schools.

A modular programme based on the EEF’s guidance and rooted in the latest research, this professional development programme will enable your teachers to make confident decisions that will help your pupils access the complexities of the new curriculum in every subject.

Over nine modules, some synchronous and some asynchronous, participants will develop a deep understanding of what the research says makes for effective teaching of disciplinary (subject-specific) literacy, and apply this in their schools.

Participants will be given a wealth of strategies for vocabulary instruction, reading and writing in every subject discipline.

This is part of the EEF Leadership programme and will explore the best available evidence on continuous professional development and draw on a range of EEF guidance reports and insights from programme evaluations.  Senior Leaders attending this programme will develop a robust plan to support every teacher in their school/Trust and develop the skills and knowledge to build on schools’ already existing CPD programmes.  It is aimed at senior leaders with responsibility for leading CPD and teacher development and aspirant senior leaders with an interest in this area.  It may well be the case that some of the literacy leads involved in the literacy programme may wish to continue onto this programme to further develop their expertise.
