The National Governance Association is planning a year of celebrating the power of governance, the people that volunteer for the role and the value that good governance brings to the school system. With this collective action and in support of the quarter of a million governors and trustees, we aim to achieve a higher profile and better understanding of governance, and further improve the lives of children and their communities.
NGA announced the campaign on Friday 28 February. Our focuses are:
- Individu
al action – encouraging and equipping governors and trustees to champion their contribution to the education system and shine a light on the difference that effective governance contributes to their school/trust. We’re providing a list of simple actions (attached) that governors, trustees and those who support governance can take as an individual or as a board to highlight governance in action. - Partner pledges – promoting pledges from our partners, including from your organisation, recognising that good governance is essential in schools and trusts and committing to promote the campaign and work with us.
On 20 March (TBC) we will publish a resource pack of open-access new and updated guidance for school and trust boards on how they can ensure they are visible at school level.
At some point in March we will formally announce the first-ever School Governance awareness week (6 to 12 June) – each day will have a different focus. We will encourage anyone interested to register and promote their participation in the week.
Later in the year, likely August/September we will have a volunteer recruitment angle with Inspiring Governance.
